Pharmacy First Service & Self-Care

Pharmacy First Advanced Services

The NHS in England has introduced a service called Pharmacy First, which allows you to obtain advice and, if suitable, treatment from your pharmacists for seven common conditions without needing an appointment or prescription. This service builds on the self-care advice and support that the Pharmacy Team has always provided.

Self-Care

Assistance and support are available from numerous national and local organizations.

If You Still Need To See Or Talk To Someone At The Surgery

Our phones are extremely busy when the surgery opens at 8:00 AM, alternatively it is much easier to reach us via Patchs.

Our challenge is ensuring we have enough slots each day for patients who need immediate attention. Additionally, we must offer follow-up appointments for ongoing issues, ensuring continuity with their clinicians. We also aim to provide advance booking options to accommodate those who are working or have transportation difficulties.

Appointments can be booked upto 4 weeks in advance, please fill a Patchs request. As a practice, we strive to see everyone as promptly as possible. However, due to varying daily demand, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to see your preferred doctor. If you wish to see a specific doctor, you can book in advance, but please note that appointments may not be available for several weeks. For straightforward issues, we hope you will consider seeing another clinician.

We also offer extended surgeries that can be booked in advance for those who work far away or have difficulty coming in during regular surgery hours.

Phone Only Booking

Appointments for Postnatal examinations, Child six week development checks, Antenatal examinations and cervical smears should NOT be booked online. These consultations require longer appointments which need to be booked through a receptionist.

Late For Your Appointment

Please make sure that you attend your appointment on time.

Text Reminder Services

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to consent to receiving text messages.

Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.

Interpreting Services

Please inform Reception if you require an interpreter.

Sick/Fit Notes

If you’ve been ill for more than seven consecutive days and have taken sick leave, you must provide your employer with a doctor’s ‘fit note’ (previously known as a ‘sick note’). This requirement includes non-working days like weekends and bank holidays.

Home Visits

Home visits are only offered to patients who are too ill to come to the surgery and they are at the doctors’ discretion. Lack of transport is not grounds for asking for a home visit. They are usually made after morning surgery except in emergencies.

We encourage requests for home visits to be made before 10.30am

Requests for non-urgent visits received after this time may be deferred to the next day at the Duty Doctor’s discretion.
